CHILDREN: WEEK 47 (1/15-1/21): ACTS 10-14; JUDGES 6-11:11

Judges 6

1.      In this chapter, who was the Israelites’ enemy that invaded their land?

a.      V3… the Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples invaded the country.

2.      When the Israelites cried out to God, what was God’s answer?

a.      "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 9 I snatched you from the power of Egypt and from the hand of all your oppressors. I drove them from before you and gave you their land. 10 I said to you, 'I am the LORD your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live.' But you have not listened to me.

3.      When trouble came, do you blame God like Gideon, who asked, “…"if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?” Why?

a.      God is always with us even in the midst of trouble.

4.      Was Gideon full of faith or was he doubtful with the angel of the Lord?

a.      He was doubtful because he was making excuse and asking for sign.

5.      How was the angel of the Lord responsed to Gideon doubtful behavior?

a.      The angel did not condemn him but gave him sign and assurance

6.      When you have doubt, what should you do?

a.      Pray and ask God to help your unbelief and give you faith that you need.

b.      Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief !" (Mark 9:24)

Judges 7

1.      Why God need less people to fight? Isn’t the more the better chance to win the battle?

a.      v2 The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her…

2.      How many solider that Gideon has in the beginning? How many was God need to fight at the end?

a.      Thirty two thousand,  V3…(So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained) in the beginning, three hundred were needed.

3.      How many Midianites were the Israelites up against?

a.      v12 The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.

4.      Was any of the man having a weapon in their hand when they sound the attacked on the Midianites?  What were they carrying?

a.      20 The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"

5.      Did God know Gideon was afraid? What did God do?

a.      God provide Gideon a friend that encouraged him. v10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah 11 and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp."

6.      What will you do when you are afraid?

a.      Pray to God because God knows. Talk to your parents (your true friend) because they will encourage you.

7.      How did most of the Midianites died?

a.      V22…the LORD caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.

8.      What would you do when God’s way does not make sense?

a.      Trust God because He always does what He promised.

 

Judges 8

1.      How did Gideon face criticism from the Epharaimites?

a.      A soft answer. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)

2.      Who did not help Gideon when he asked for bread for his troops?

a.      Officials of Succoth and people at Peniel.

3.      How many swordsmen that Midian has in the beginning? And how many was being chase by three hundren Gideon’s men?

a.      v10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor with a force of about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of the armies of the eastern peoples; a hundred and twenty thousand swordsmen had fallen.

4.      What was Gideon answer when people want to make him a king? Why do you think Gideon did not take the credits for defeating the Midianites?

a.      V23…Gideon told them, "I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you." He knew it was God who defeated them not him. Always give credit to those it belong, never boast ourselves.

Judges 9

1.      How many sons that Gideon has?

a.      Seventy

2.      Gideon did not want him or his children to become ruler, but who wanted to be the king?

a.      Abimelech.

3.      What did Abimelech do his brothers?

a.      He murdered all his seventy brothers.

4.      What did God do in dealing with the wicked act of Abimelech?

a.      v23 God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the citizens of Shechem, who acted treacherously against Abimelech.

5.      What was the fate of Abimelech?

a.      v53 a woman dropped an upper millstone on his head and cracked his skull. v 54 Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say, 'A woman killed him.' " So his servant ran him through, and he died.

6.      Will God ever let sin unpunished?

a.      No, all sin will have to be paid with a punishment. Nothing we can do will able to redeem our sin. But Jesus can pay it all with His death on the cross for you if you believe and trust Him.

 

Judges 10-11:11

1.      Again and again that the Israelites forsook the LORD and no longer served Him, and God used the enemy to oppress them so that they would return to God. What did they do that God came to rescue them?

a.      V10…the Israelites cried out to the LORD, "We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals."

b.      v16 Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD.

2.      What are some of the bad behaviors that you always repeatedly do that you know that are not right? What are you going to do about it?

3.      Jephthah was despised and was driven away by his own family, but later when his family needed help, they called him back. How should we treat each other, especially your own brother and sister?

 

Acts 10

1.      Who was Cornelius?

a.      v1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. v2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

2.      What did God tell Peter to eat in the vision?

a.      V12…all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air.

3.      Why Peter refused to eat?

a.      v14 "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."

4.      As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. What was Peter reaction?

a.      v26 But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself."

5.      What did Peter learn about God’s view on Gentile and Jews?

a.      V28…But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean.

b.      v34 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism v35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

6.      How should you treat some people who are consider not cool (has disability, not attractive, not smart, poor…)?

a.      We should not show favoritism like God who love all his creation.

 

Acts 11

1.      What did some Jewish believers think of Peter after he went to a Gentile house and ate with them?

a.      V2…The circumcised (Jewish) believers criticized him.

2.      What can you learn from Peter when you are being criticized for doing what God want you to do?

a.       V17…who was I to think that I could oppose God?... Never stop doing what God put in your heart. It is better to please God and oppose man then to oppose God to please man.

3.      What is the name of the place where disciples of Jesus was called Christian?

a.      Antioch

 

Acts 12

1.      What was the church doing when Peter was arrested and put in the prison?

a.      v5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

2.      Who is in trouble right now in church? Have you prayed for them? Pray now.

3.      What did God do while the people were praying for Peter?

a.      God sent and an angel to free Peter from the jail.

4.      What happened to King Herod when people thought he sounded like God? What lesson can you learn from this?

a.      v23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

b.      Always give credit and glory to God on all that you can do.

Acts 13

1.      Who was sent out by the Holy Spirit?

a.      Barnabas and Saul

2.      How David was described by God?

a.      V22…David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.

3.      Can God describe you the same way as David? Why?

4.      What happened to Jesus after they took him down from the tree (cross) and laid him in a tomb?

a.      30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.

5.      Who is a witness? Can you be the one telling people about what God has done in your life?

a.      Witness: an individual who, being present, personally sees or perceives a thing; a beholder, spectator, or eyewitness. A person who gives testimony, as in a court of law.

 

Acts 14

1.      When the crowd saw Paul heal the crippled man, they call him a god. Did Paul enjoy the fame? Why?

a.      Paul shouted, "Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. 16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy." He denied he was a god, but a man, and gave all the credit to God.

2.      Is following Jesus an easy thing and a guarantee for nothing bad will happen to you?

a.      "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said. It is not easy but worth all your life. The joy and the promises overshadow every hardship.
