Ephesians 5

 

1.      The Bible teaches us to be an imitator of God. What is an imitator?

 

a.      To follow or endeavor to follow as a model or example. It means to be a copy of God, do what God does.

 

2.      What does the Bible teach us about the misuse of our speech?  Instead what should we speak?

 

a.      v4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

 

3.      v8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. How do you live as a child of light?

 

a.      v10 and find out what pleases the Lord. v11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

 

b.      v15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise

 

c.      v17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

 

d.      v19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

 

e.      v20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

f.       v21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

 

4.      What is the responsibility of a wife to her husband? Why?

 

a.      v22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. v23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

 

5.      What is the responsibility of a husband to his wife? Why?

 

a.      v25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

 

b.      v28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

 

Ephesians 6

 

1.      What is the responsibility of a child to his or her parents? Why?

 

a.      v1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. v2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--v 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

 

2.      What does a father should and should not do to his children?

 

a.      v4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

 

3.      What is the responsibility of the slave (employee) to their master (employer)?

 

a.      v5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. v7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, v8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

 

4.      What is the responsibility of a master (employer)?

 

a.      v9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

 

5.      What is in the armor of God? Which one are you missing for the battle?

 

a.      14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,

 

b.      with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

 

c.      15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

 

d.      16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

 

e.      17 Take the helmet of salvation

 

f.       and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

 

Philippians 1

 

1.      Your life is a good work of God. Who will complete this work?

a.      V6…He (God) who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

 

2.      V28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God. Share about anything that frightens you?

 

Philippians 2

 

1.      What does this passage teach us about treating others and regard of ourselves?

 

a.      v3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. v4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

 

2.      Who is our ultimate model for humility? What did he do?

 

a.      Christ Jesus: v6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, v7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. v8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

 

3.      Many people misused the name of Jesus Christ. How should we regard the name of Jesus Christ?

 

a.      9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

 

4.      Now you have received God’s salvation, what should you do?

 

a.      continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

 

5.      What is right attitude when we do work (especially when you parents ask you to do it)?

 

a.      v14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, v15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault…

 

Philippians 3

 

1.      What is the most important thing in your life?

 

a.      v8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ

 

2.      What is the purpose of life?

 

a.      V13…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

 

3.      How do the enemies of God live their lives?

 

a.      v19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.

 

4.      What about those who believe God? What should they be doing, and where will they be?

 

a.      V20…And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, v21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

 

1Kings 8-12

 

1.      What was in the ark of covenant?

 

a.      v9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.

a.      10 When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD. 11 And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple.

1Kings 9

 

1.      What Solomon has to do to have his throne establish forever?

 

a.      v4 "As for you, if you walk before me in integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, v5 I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever.

 

2.      What would happen to Solomon’s kingdom if his son turns away from God?

 

a.      6 "But if you or your sons turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, v7 then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.

 

3.      What choice will you make: following God or turning away from God? Why?

 

1Kings 10

 

1.      What is the name of the queen who wanted to test Solomon with hard questions?

 

a.      1 When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relation to the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions.

 

2.      What was the queen’s reaction after witnessing Solomon’s wisdom?

 

a.      v6 She said to the king, "The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. v7 But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. v8 How happy your men must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! v9 Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD's eternal love for Israel, he has made you king, to maintain justice and righteousness."

 

3.      What will people see in you? Will they praise God? Why?

 

1Kings 11

 

1.      How did Solomon disobey God in process of taking wives?

 

a.      v1 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter--Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. v2 They were from nations about which the LORD had told the Israelites, "You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods." Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

 

2.      How many wives did Solomon have? What was the consequence?

 

a.      v3 He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. v4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

 

3.      What was the consequence for that Solomon did not keep the covenant with the Lord?

 

a.      v11 So the LORD said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. v12 Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. v13 Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen."

 

4.      Do you think it was wise for Solomon not following God?

 

a.      Solomon was not that wise after all. Disobeying Go is the most foolish thing in life.

 

5.      Whom did God want to give the kingdom of Israel to?

 

a.      v31 Then he said to Jeroboam, "Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon's hand and give you ten tribes.

 

1Kings 12

 

1.      What was the mistake king Rehoboam made to ruin the kingdom?

 

a.      v13 The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, v14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions."  

 

2.      Why is it important to listen to the advice of elder people?

 

3.      What was the mistake king Jeroboam made with his people?

 

a.      v28 After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt." v29 One he set up in Bethel, and the other in Dan.

Galatians 6

1.      How can we help a person who has sin?

a.      V1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

2.      What are the outcomes if we  choose to please our sinful nature or please the Holy Spirit?

a.      v8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

3.      Should we get tired or give up in doing good?

a.      v9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. v10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

 

Ephesians 1

1.      When did God choose us?

a.      v4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love v5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--.

2.      In verse 11, “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,” again the Bible mentioned that we have been chosen by Him. How does that make you feel?

a.      Special, loved by God, honor, underserved….

3.      What do the blood of Christ and His grace bring to us?

a.      v7 In him (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

4.      What is the process of salvation? Or, what are the steps to be saved by God? Have you done it?

a.      13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth (step 1), the gospel of your salvation. Having believed (step 2) , you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit (step 3) ,

Ephesians 2

1.      If we are still in sin, what is the condition of our spirit?

a.      V1…you were dead (in spirit) in your transgressions and sins…

2.      If we now believe in Christ, what is the condition of our spirit?

a.      v4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, v5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

3.      Do we have to do something good to be saved by God?

a.      v8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--v 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

4.      Since we are saved now, do we still have to do good works?

a.      v10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

5.      What are some of the good works you can do?

Ephesians 3

1.      What attitude will please God when you go to Him?

a.      v12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.  

2.      What can God do in your lives?

a.      20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Ephesians 4

1.      As a Christian, how should we live out our lives?

a.      V1…to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

2.      Why we need to “grow up” or become mature (in spiritual sense) as Christian?

a.      v13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

3.      What are the things that Paul teaches us to put on and put off?

a.      22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

4.      Can we get angry? How should we handle our anger?

a.      V26 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, v27 and do not give the devil a foothold. We can get angry with a righteous reason, but not sinful reason. But even with that, we should not get angry for long period of time.

5.      29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. What are some unwholesome talk that come out from you? What should you say instead?

6.      How should you treat each other? Give an example?

a.      32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

1Kings 2

a.      It is a heart that will know what is right and wrong from God’s perspective. It is based on absolute truth of God. The only way to receive a discerning hear is through God and His word. This is one thing that God will lavishly give it to us if we ask.

7.      In the story of the two mother fighting for the baby, how did Solomon know who the true mother was for the baby?

a.      v25 He (Solomon) then gave an order: "Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other." v26 The woman whose son was alive was filled with compassion for her son and said to the king, "Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!" But the other said, "Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!" Only the true mother would never let her child die even if she has to lose the baby.

1.      Which builder was bigger, Solomon’s palace or the temple of God?

a.      v2 He built the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon a hundred cubits long, fifty wide and thirty high, with four rows of cedar columns supporting trimmed cedar beams. Solomon’s palace was bigger.

2.      What was the name of the fine craftsman who did all the finishing of the temple?

a.      Huram.

3.      Why Huram put so much detail in designing the top of the pillar where not many people would notice that? “v19The capitals on top of the pillars in the portico were in the shape of lilies, four cubits high. v20 On the capitals of both pillars, above the bowl-shaped part next to the network, were the two hundred pomegranates in rows all around.”

a.      Because God notice that. God knows and notice all the things that we do. So, whatever we do, do it for God, because He care.

4.      David was not able to build the temple or witness the completion of the temple. Did he just gave up and not contribute?

a.      v51 When all the work King Solomon had done for the temple of the LORD was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated--the silver and gold and the furnishings--and he placed them in the treasuries of the LORD's temple. He contributed in every way he could, even he cannot see the results.

5.      Will you participate in some work (like helping someone) that you know you will not see the outcome, but deep in your heart you believe God want you to be a part of?

I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. v27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. v28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.

2Corinthians 12

1.      How many times did Paul pray to God for the thorn (suffering) to be removed from him? Did God answer him?

a.      v8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. v9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

2.      What would you do when your prayer to God was answered in different way that you expected?

a.      v10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. We need to keep our spirit in Godly perspective instead of our will, then things will look different.

 

2Corinthians 13

1.      How can we be stronger in faith in God?

a.      V4…Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you.

2.      How should we live our lives, in lies or in truth?

a.      8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

3.      Think about a time that you felt you have to lie, but instead you told the truth.

 

2Samuel 16

1.      Who showed kindness to David? And what did he do?

a.      v1 When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit, there was Ziba, the steward of Mephibosheth, waiting to meet him. He had a string of donkeys saddled and loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs and a skin of wine.

a.      v5 As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the same clan as Saul's family came out from there. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he cursed as he came out.

Leave him alone; let him curse, for the LORD has told him to. v12 It may be that the LORD will see my distress and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today."

2Samuel 17

1.      What did Ahithophel do when his advice was not take by Absalom?

a.      23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his house in order and then hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father's tomb.

2.      When you think that no one is listening to you, what should you do?

a.      We have a friend who is always ready to listen and ready to help. His name is Jesus. Pray to Him and ask Him to send someone to talk to you.

 

2Samuel 18

1.      What did David command Joab, his commander concerning Absalom (David’s son), whom trying to kill David?

a.      v5 The king commanded Joab, Abishai and Ittai, "Be gentle with the young man Absalom for my sake."

2.      What happened to Absalom when he was riding on a mule under an oak tree?

a.      v9 Now Absalom happened to meet David's men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom's head got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going.

3.      Who killed Absalom? Did he obey David’s command?

a.      v14 Joab said, "I'm not going to wait like this for you." So he took three javelins in his hand and plunged them into Absalom's heart while Absalom was still alive in the oak tree.

4.      Was David glad that his enemy Absalom has died?

a.      v33 The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you--O Absalom, my son, my son!"

a.      v5 Then Joab went into the house to the king and said, "Today you have humiliated all your men, who have just saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters and the lives of your wives and concubines. v6 You love those who hate you and hate those who love you. This day you have become my adversaries! Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? Do I not know that today I am king over Israel?" v23 So the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." And the king promised him on oath.

2Samuel 20

1.      Who rose up against David?

a.      1 Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bicri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted, "We have no share in David, no part in Jesse's son! Every man to his tent, O Israel!" 2 So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bicri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.

2Corinthians 4

1.      4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Can you name some of “the god of this age” or the things or thought that prevent people from knowing God?

2.      How did Paul describe his following with Christ? Was it an easy one? But why he kept on pressing ahead for God?

a.      v8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; v9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. v10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. v11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.

3.      What should we be focusing on in our life, things that we can see (material thing) or things that we cannot see (spiritual thing)? Why?

a.                v18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

 

2Corinthians 5

1.                How does the bible describe our heavenly home?

a.      V1…we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

2.                What will happen when we all appear before judgment seat of God?

a.      v10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

3.                v15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. Who is this “him”?

4.                If you are in Christ,  how will God change you?

a.      17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

a.      to bring into agreement or harmony;

a.      Our sin has made us separated from God, so we are not being good friend with God.

2Corinthians 6

1.                Are you certain you are reconciled with God or being a friend with God? If you are not, how can you be reconciled or saved by God?

a.      v2 For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.

2.                v14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers… What does this verse mean?

a.      Do not be a very good friend with an unbeliever.

3.                What kind of relationship does God desire to have with you? Who does God desire to live with?

a.      v18 "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

1.                How did the believers in Macedonia give to those who have need?

a.      v2 Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. v3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, v4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. v5 And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.

2Samuel 12

2Samuel 13

1.                Who gave Amnon the idea of taking advantage of Tamar?

a.      v3 Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother. Jonadab was a very shrewd man.

2.                Is it very important to associate with the right kind of friend? Do you have friends who you think can be a bad influence?

3.                When King David heard Amnon has rapped Tamar, he was furious, but he did nothing else. What do you think David as a father should have done?

4.                Absalom killed Amnon for rapping his sister two years ago. Why revenge is not right?

1.                What was Absalom’s motive by making himself a judge for the people of Israel?

a.      v6 Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the men of Israel. Absalom wanted to be the king and take away his father, David’s throne.

1Corinthians 15

 

1.      What is the basic content of Gospel?

 

a.      V3…Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, v4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, v5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. v6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

 

2.      What did Adam bring? What did Christ bring?

 

a.      v21 For since death came through a man (Adam), the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man (Christ). v22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

 

3.      What will Christ do when He returns?

 

a.      V24…when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. v25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. v26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

 

4.      Why we should not associate with bad friends?

 

a.      V33…."Bad company corrupts good character."

 

5.      We who believe in Christ will be resurrected. What are the differences between an earthly body and the heavenly body that we will get when we are resurrected?

 

a.      V42…The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

 

6.      How does the bible describe our resurrection?

 

a.      v52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. v53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. v54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality

7.      What should we do now before Christ comes back to raise us?

 

a.      v58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

 

1Corinthians 16

 

1.      v 13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. v14 Do everything in love. Think of one practical thing you can do to stand firm in faith, be men of courage, and do everything in love.

 

 

2Corinthians 1

 

1.      Why do we sometimes experience suffering?

 

a.      v3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, v4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. v5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

 

2.      What is one thing that you can do to those who are suffering?

 

a.      v11 as you help us by your prayers… Pray for those who are suffering and then see what else God want you to do.

 

3.      How does God guarantee His ownership on us?

 

a.      V21…He anointed us, v22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 

 

2Corinthians 2

 

1.      If someone has repented from their sin and is very sorry, how should we react toward him or her?

 

a.      v7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. v8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.

 

2.      Why should we forgive someone who has repented?

 

a.      9 The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. v10 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven--if there was anything to forgive--I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, v11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

 

3.      Do you smell good? I mean do you “smell” good for God and other people? How do other people feel when you are around them?  How good is your “smell” for God?

 

a.      14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

 

2Corinthians 3

 

1.      Why did Moses have to put a veil on his face?

 

a.      v13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. The Israelite was not able to withstand the glowing on his face.

 

2.      Do you have a “veil” or something that prevents you from knowing God? Talk about it.

2.      Why did they kill Ish-Bosheth?

 

a.      v8 They brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to take your life. This day the LORD has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring." They thought they can gain favor from David.

 

3.      Was David happy about the news that Ish-Bosheth was killed? What did he do to the two brothers who killed Ish-Bosheth?

 

a.      v9 David answered Recab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of all trouble, v10 when a man told me, 'Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news! v11 How much more--when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed--should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!" 12 So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them….

 

4.      What should you do when you see someone taking advantage of a weaker person?

1.      How old was David when he became king over all Israel? How long did he reign?

 

a.      v4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.

 

2.      Why David became more and more powerful?

 

a.      v10 And he became more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him.

 

3.      What did David do before he went out to attack the Philistines?

 

a.      v19 so David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?"

 

b.      v23 so David inquired of the LORD, and he answered, "Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.

1.      What happened when Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled?

a.      v7 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore, God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God. No one should touched the ark, except the Levites

 

2.      Why did David not proceed to bring the ark to the city of David after Uzzah death?

 

a.      v9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?"

 

3.      What was David doing to cause Michal to despise him?

 

a.      v14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, v15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

a.      V20…Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"

 

5.      Different people have different way of worshiping God. Should we criticize someone who uses a different way to worship God? Then, how should we worship?

 

a.      v23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. v24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24

 

2Samuel 7

 

1.      Why do you think David wanted to build a house for the ark (temple)?

 

a.      v2 he (David) said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent." David wanted to serve God by providing a dwelling for the ark of God.

 

2.      What did God promise David?

 

a.      9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the earth. 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. " 'The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.' "

a.      18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. 1. 林後12-13這兩節經文可以看到保羅在特羅亞的目的是為了傳福音;且主為他開了門; 因著保羅在特羅亞找不到提多; 使得保羅在特羅亞備受困擾,靈裏得不到安寧; 最終保羅離開特羅亞,前往馬其頓.  從保羅講及在特羅亞困擾他的靈,我們很難從他的感覺去定斷神在他身上的旨意。很多時候,我們以自己心中“有平安”而斷言自己所做是對的。究竟對一件事有平安是否等於是神的旨意,沒有平安就不是神的旨意?

From 2 Corin 2:12-13, Paul mentioned that he had no peace of mind in Troas, it is hard for us to determine God’s will on Paul based on his feeling. Sometimes we may think what we have done is right if we have peace of mind in our hearts. Does having peace-of-mind mean it is God’s will? How can we assert whether or not it is God’s will?

 

  2.  撒下3-7, 烏撒熱心事奉神卻也會遭受祂的懲罰, 從这一事例中,我们应汲取什麼教訓?(参考:利十1~3;書七24~25,二十四19~20;徒五1~11)

1Corinthians 10

1.      There were four “Don’t” we can learn from the Israelites who were wondering in desert.

a.      v7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry."

b.      v8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.

c.      v9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did--and were killed by snakes.

d.      v10 And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel.

2.      Will we be tempted beyond what we can bear? Why?

a.      v13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

3.      Why we cannot live selfishly without caring for other people?

a.      v24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

4.      What attitude we should have when we eat, drink or do anything?

a.      v31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

 

1Corinthians 11

1.      Who is the head of a man? Who is the head of a woman?

a.      v3 Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

3.      Why do we have Lord’s Supper?

a.      v26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

1Corinthians 12

1.      Why God gives us spiritual gift?

a.      7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

2.      What does a body make up from?

a.      12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.

3.      As a part of the body of Christ, how should we treat each others?

a.      v22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, v23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, v24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,

4.      How does a body of Christ should function?

a.      v25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. v26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. v27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

1Corinthians 13

1.      What is love?

a.      v4 Love is patient,

b.      love is kind.

c.      It does not envy,

d.      it does not boast,

e.      it is not proud.

f.       v5 It is not rude,

g.      it is not self-seeking,

h.      it is not easily angered,

i.       it keeps no record of wrongs.

j.       v6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

k.      v7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1.      How should we mind our speech or use our tongue?

a.      v9 So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. We ought to talk smart, not trash talk.

2.      Should we remain like a baby and think and behave like a baby?

a.      v20 Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. We have to grow up in our thinking, remain like a baby and childish is actually bad behavior.

 

1Samuel 29

1.      Why the commander of the Philistine did not want David to fight with them?

a.      v4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with him and said, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn against us during the fighting. …  

 

1Samuel 30

1.      What did David do before pursuing the Amalekites?

a.      v7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." Abiathar brought it to him, v8 and David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?"

2.      Did David and his men lose anything after recovering from the raid?

a.      v19 Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back.

3.      What did David do when some evil men did not want to share the things that they recovered from with the two hundred men that did not go into battle because they were exhausted?

a.      v23 David replied, "No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us. v24 Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike." David recognized that it was God who gave them back all the things and they should not fuss about it.

4.      Do you share of what God has given you or hold on to it so tight like you have gained it yourself?

 

1Samuel 31

1.      How did Saul die?

a.      v3 The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him critically. v4 Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

2.      Isn’t it ironic that Saul was seeking David life with his sword, but he was the one that actually fell on his own sword? Have you been mistreated by someone in school or anywhere? Share about it, and pray for God to help you and bring justice to those who harm you.

 

 

2Samuel 1

1.      How the Amalekite who escaped from the Israelite camp was described the death of Saul? And what did he bring to David?

a.      v6 "I happened to be on Mount Gilboa," the young man said, "and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and riders almost upon him. v7 When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I said, 'What can I do?' 8 "He asked me, 'Who are you?' " 'An Amalekite,' I answered.v9 "Then he said to me, 'Stand over me and kill me! I am in the throes of death, but I'm still alive.' v10 "So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord."

2.      Why do you think the Amalekite wanted to tell a lie on how Saul was killed?

a.      He was hoping to gain favor from David because Saul was seeking David’s life.

3.      What did David do instead of rewarding his for bringing the “good news”?

a.      15 Then David called one of his men and said, "Go, strike him down!" So he struck him down, and he died.

4.      Why do you think David did that?

a.      16 For David had said to him, "Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, 'I killed the LORD's anointed.' "

5.      Have you ever telling a lie in order to gain favor from someone? Who did you offended instead?

 

 2Samuel 2

1.      Where was David anointed as king of Israel the second time?

a.      v4 Then the men of Judah came to Hebron and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.

2.      What happened between houses of Saul and David?

a.      There were wars between them.

 

2Samuel 3

1.      Why did Abner go to meet with David?

a.      v12 Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to say to David, "Whose land is it? Make an agreement with me, and I will help you bring all Israel over to you." Abner wanted to unify Israel under David.

2.      Why Joab murdered Abner?

a.      v30 (Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)

3.      Was David please with the killing of Abner?

a.      31 Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walk in mourning in front of Abner.” King David himself walked behind the bier. 32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also. David acted justly.

4.      Should we revenge for the hurt that someone has done to us?

a.      Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. Roman 12:19. God will judge and we should not take revenge into our hand, but to act justly and let the authority exercised the righteousness.

2Corinthians 5

1.      How did Paul contrast the structure of our current earthly living and future heavenly living?

a.      1 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

2.      What God has put in us to guarantee a place in heaven?

a.      5 Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

3.      Knowing what God has prepared for us in heaven, how we should live our lives?

a.      v7 We live by faith, not by sight. v9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

4.      For one day all of us who have lived will appear before who, and what will happen there?

a.      v10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

5.      If you are in Christ as a believer, how does God view you?

a.      v17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! v21 God made him (Jesus)  who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

In 1 Samuel 28: 3-8, how does Saul seek to know God’s will? Was Samuel truly brought up by the medium out of the ground (28: 12)? What “great distress” in your life has you seeking God’s will in earnest? Where are you looking for answers?

1 Samuel 23: 7-8, why is Saul pleased to hear that David is in Keilah? In our daily life, do you often consider things happened in our favor as from God and those against our wills are due to Satan at work? Why should we be alert that opportunities in favor of us may be not all from God?
